Studies Show Agendia Assay Could Reduce Unnecessary Chemo for Node +/- Patients An international consortium has shown that Agendias MammaPrint breast cancer prognosis test can accurately identifying which lymph node-positive breast cancer patients should not receive adjuvant chemotherapy. The company also recently published data showing how the test can reduce chemotherapy treatment in node-negative breast cancer patients, and completed a study that shows it might be useful in determining the treatment for elderly patients.

FDA Updates Carbamazepine Label to Urge Genetic Testing for Rare Skin Reactions The FDA requested makers of a drug indicated for epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and neuropathic pain to add a black box warning recommending doctors to test patients of Asian ancestry for the HLA-B*1502 polymorphism due to the increased risk of Stevens Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Specialty labs such as LabCorp and Quest have said they can accommodate such genetic testing.
